Okay if you don't have windows, then i don't know what to do. but here's if you have windows.
http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html
go there ^
If you have windows 2000 or newer download the thing that says, GTK+ 2 Runtime Environment (version 2.10.13, for Windows 2000 and newer)
if you have windows 98, click where it says, GTK+ 2 Runtime Environment (version 2.6.10-20050823, for Windows 98/ME and NT4)
Once those are installed, download where it says The GIMP for Windows (version 2.2.17) Install that and gimp is on your computer.
If you have vista its different, so don't do the above if you have vista.
Hope that helped. _________________

yeah WarnD said it, but instead of clicking 'select file type' try this, I do it its faster and easier:
Type in the box myfilename
Then put a period so it says, myfilename.
Then put you file type. learn some file types. myfilename.png
Some good file types:
.PNG I think and many other people think this is the best because its great quality and it supports transparency.
.GIF a gif is used for animation. when saving as a gif animation in gimp, every layer will be a new frame.
.JPG This format is almost as good quality as PNG, but it doesn't support transparency. And it won't take up quite as much space on your hard drive.
.XCF This format is only opened in gimp. It saves all the layers so that you can go back and edit them, add them, or delete them. *A bit of advice, always save an xcf file with your picture. you may want to edit something later, or you might lose the png or jpg or gif image. Also it doesn't take much space so there's no hurt.
Thats about it. and when saving I would recomend not using all caps because some image editing/viewing programs won't open images with all cap file types.
If you see any other file types that you wonder about, ask me, or google is your friend. ;D
Hope that mile of text helped. _________________
